Srinagar, Jun 21: Amid ongoing heatwave, Islam Yarbal locality in Zaina Kadal, near Pathar Masjid in old city is facing acute water crisis for the past 10-days.
A delegation of residents said, “The unavailability of drinking water has made our lives miserable. We are literally surviving on bottled and borrowed water. It is been 10 days and not a single drop has reached our homes,”
“We have small children, elderly parents but no one seems to be bothered our plight,” said Imran Ahmad, who was leading the delegation.
Another local said they have approached the concerned department several times but their pleas were ignored. “We knocked on every door, informed the officials, but no one responded. Is this how we are supposed to live?” he said, adding now they have lost trust over the system and are requesting the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene into this matter. “Our earnest appeal to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is to intervene and bail us out,” the delegation members said.
They urged the administration to take urgent steps to restore the water supply, warning that the situation may lead to a health crisis if left unaddressed.
The locals have also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to intervene without further delay.
