Pulwama, Jul 7: A late-night road accident in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district claimed the lives of two men from Jammu and left three others injured.
According to local police, the incident occurred in the Galander area near Pampore, along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, a critical transit route that has seen a series of fatal crashes in recent years. The victims were travelling in a black Mahindra Scorpio (JK02DQ-2585) when the vehicle veered off the road under unclear circumstances.
The vehicle was reportedly being driven by Jhonty, a resident of Mershiwala, Akhnoor in Jammu, who was accompanied by four passengers. The vehicle sustained significant damage, and all occupants were injured in the collision. Despite efforts to rush them to a nearby medical facility, Jhonty and one co-traveller, identified as Sono Kumar of Dabsora, Jammu, succumbed to their injuries.
A senior police official confirmed that a case has been registered and a formal investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the accident. “We are examining all possible angles, including speed, mechanical failure, and visibility conditions at the time of the crash,” the official said.
The surviving passengers are being treated at a hospital in Pampore, with two reportedly in stable condition and one being closely monitored. [KNT]
