Srinagar, Jul 10: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday said that the Congress Party will push the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir demand during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, set to start from July 21.
He said the party’s ‘Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ movement is gaining momentum and is open to participation from all sections of society—beyond party, regional, or religious affiliations.
Karra said, “Yes, we have raised the demand for restoration of statehood in previous Parliament sessions, and we will definitely push it again in the upcoming monsoon session. To build more public and political pressure, we have decided to intensify our restoration movement campaign so that the voice of the people is heard on the floor of the Parliament.”
Karra emphasized that the movement is not limited to Congress workers or supporters. “Our campaign is inclusive. Statehood is not just the demand of Congress; it is the right of every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. That’s why we have kept it open for all—there are no political, religious, or regional boundaries in this cause,” he said.
He said that as part of its preparations, the Congress has held meetings with its district coordinators across Jammu and Kashmir to chalk out the next phase of the campaign.
He said the party has resolved to ramp up the ‘Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq’ campaign in the days ahead with more public outreach, mobilization drives, and appeals to all democratic voices to support the cause.
“We are determined to force the Central government to bring a bill in the upcoming Parliament session that will pave the way for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. This is not a political slogan—it is a constitutional demand and a matter of democratic justice,” Karra asserted.
The Congress leader also extended an invitation to other political parties, civil society members, and citizens at large to join the movement and raise a united voice for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s dignity and democratic rights. (KINS)
