Ganderbal, Nov 11: A large quantity of illicit timber was seized by the police in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, police said.
Police said that acting on the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, a team of Police Station Gund led by SHO Police Station Gund Sub Inspector Abdul Rashid under the close supervision of SDPO Kangan Syed Yasir Qadri seized 21 logs of illicit timber (illegally cut timber) from the forests of nearby Village Hilpatti Haknar Gund.
“In this regard Case FIR No. 48/2021 U/S 379 IPC, 26 IF ACT has been registered at Police Station Gund and further investigation into the matter is in process. Moreover, the persons involved in this act shall be dealt strictly as per the provisions of law,” said a police official.
He said that acting tough against timber smugglers, Ganderbal Police assures that the drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of “Green Gold” from the plunder. The efforts of district police Ganderbal have been highly appreciated by general public, the police said.
