Anantnag, Nov 19: The residents of Verinag hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have hailed the efforts of wildlife department for capturing one more bear in the area on Friday.
They requested wildlife officials to continue such rescue operations as more animals are roaming in the residential areas.
An official said that the wildlife said that before few days they received an information about a bear roaming in Imooh area of Verinag following which a team rushed to the spot and later cages were installed.
He said that on Friday while they were going through the area, they found that a bear has been trapped in a cage.
“Soon more officials of the department rushed to the spot and rescued the wild beast following which the wild animal was shifted to nearby wildlife Sanctuary,” the official said.
It is pertinent to mention here that in last one week, many bears have been rescued in the area as earlier bears were tranquilized in Achabal and Akingam area of district.
On Thursday a bear was captured in Alhal Devsar area of Kulgam which was later shifted to Sedow forest area.
Meanwhile, locals have thanked wildlife department for their work but requested them to continue such rescue operations as more wild animals are roaming in the area posing threat to the local residents and their livestock.
An official of the department said that they will continue such rescue operations in the residential areas.
DFO wildlife division Anantnag Rouf Zargar said that around seven bears were captured and shifted to wildlife sanctuaries in the area in last 10 days.
