348 security forces personnel, 195 civilians killed in last five years in JK: MHA

New Delhi, Nov 30: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Tuesday informed the Parliament that a total of 348 Security Forces including J&K Police personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir in the last five years while 195 civilians also got killed in the militant related incidents.
The Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai was replying to the queries raised in the parliament winter session which commenced on Monday.
The queries raised in the house include the details of recent incidents of civilian killings and security forces in Kashmir and the number of such incidents besides the fatalities.
In response to the questions, the MoS Home Affairs stated that a total of 348 security forces including J&K police personnel were killed and 796 injured besides a total of 195 civilians were killed and 534 were injured between 2017 to 2021 in militant related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
Given the year-wise breakup, the MoS informed that a total of 348 security force personal including the Jammu and Kashmir police personal were killed between 2017 to 2021 which include 80 in 2017 followed by 91, 80, 62, and 35 in subsequent years
About the injured security forces and J&K police personal, the minister said that 796 were received injures which include 226 in 2017 followed by 238, 140 106, and 86 in subsequent years.
About the civilians killed in these five years, the Minister said that a total of 195 were killed which include 40 in 2017 followed by 39, 39, 37, and 40 in the subsequent years.
Regarding the injuries to civilians, the minister informed that a total of 534 were injured between 2017 to 2021 which include 99, 63, 188, 112, and 72 in these years.
The MoS said that security forces take utmost care and exercise restraint during anti-militancy/Naxal operations to ensure that no common man is hurt.
About the measures taken by the movement for the protection of the common man, the MoS said that “Proactive operations against terrorists, identification, and arrest of overground workers/supporters of militancy, action against members of banned organizations.”
“Intensified night patrolling and checking at Nakas, security arrangements through appropriate deployment, coordination meetings amongst security agencies, high level of alertness maintained by the security forces, legal action in cases of militancy funding”, the minister said about the measures taken.
