Centre to keep budgetary provisions for restoration of flood hit infrastructure

Srinagar, Dec 3: The Union Finance Ministry has agreed to keep budgetary provisions for permanent restoration of infrastructure hit by 2014 floods in Jammu & Kashmir in the revised estimates of ongoing fiscal.
Documents in possession, reveal that the Ministry of Finance has agreed to keep the budgetary provision for permanent restoration of infrastructure damaged by 2014 deluge in J&K.
Under the Prime Minister’s Development Package for Jammu and Kashmir, Rs 2000 crore were earmarked for restoration of infrastructure hit by deluge of 2014.
The documents reveal that against the approved amount of Rs 2000 crore, only Rs 1178.34 crore have been released by the Government of India till date.
“Against the action plan of Rs 2000 crore, Government of India has released only Rs 1178.34 crore. Balance amount of 811.64 crore need to be released,” the documents state.
The funds have not been released even as the National Institution for Transformation of India (NITI)Aayog has recommended the same.
“On the basis of the Utilization Certificate submitted, NITI Aayog recommended to MOF for release of Rs.647.46 crore,” the documents further state.
It is worthwhile to mention that NITI Aayog was monitoring the works taken up under the PMDP component for permanent restoration of the infrastructure.
