Qazigund, Dec 25: The residents of southern Kashmir’s Qazigund town on Saturday complained of faulty street lights causing inconvenience to commuters and passers-by, especially during late hours.
Residents of Qazigund town said that as soon as dusk sets in, the entire town plunges into darkness as the streetlights erected at various places were lying defunct.
“Maximum of the street lights in Qazigund town became defunct soon after installation. Unfortunately, the street lights have not been repaired since then,” Irfan Gani, a local said.
“The matter was brought into the notice of Municipal Committee Qazigund officials several times but all in vain,” Gani said.
He also said that they fear to walk in the evening hours and usually prefer to offer evening prayers at home due to the fear of stray dogs in darkness.
Locals appealed to concerned authorities to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest.
Executive Officer Municipal Committee Qazigund Farooq Ahmad Ganie said that some lights have been repaired in the last two days which are functional now and in coming days other defunct lights will also be made functional.
“We are expecting more streetlights to be installed very soon,” he said.
