Anantnag, Dec 25: After missing several deadlines, the Government Medical College Anantnag is set to function from its main campus next week.
The foundation stone of the GMC Anantnag was laid by then Union Health Minister J P Nadda and then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in 2016.
The project which was to be completed at a cost of Rs 133 crore was handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) with June 2021 as the final deadline, however, that deadline wasn’t met as well.
Pertinently, 100 MBBS seats which were approved for the GMC college by the National Medical Council are still functioning from Janglat Mandi hospital.
Officials working at the GMC said that they are facing a lot of problems while working at the erstwhile district hospital building due to space crunch.
Officials within JKPCC said that five blocks of the main campus are complete, however, the interior work in some blocks will take some time.
Dr Tariq Qureshi Principal GMC Anantnag said that GMC will start functioning from the main campus in Dailgam next week and final arrangements in this regard are going on.
He claimed that GMC campus is complete and it is being ensured that water, power supply and other things are functional before shifting there.
