Srinagar, 27 Dec: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader and advisor to Vice President Omar Abdullah, Tanvir Sadiq Monday said that the initial draft report of the delimitation Committee is disappointing, aimed at misbalancing power centre and putting Jammu against Kashmir.
He said this while addressing a youth convention in Zadibal. The convention started with joining of young political activists from different political parties into National Conference.
He said the commission’s proposed six seats for Jammu and only one for Kashmir sans logic. “If the census of 2011 is to be taken into account and population has to be the basis then Kashmir region should have been given more seats than Jammu region,” he added.
Tanvir further said that with the present report a million and a half odd voters of Kashmir region are being disenfranchised.
“The party will strongly oppose this in the dissent note and that is why it was important for the party to attend the Delimitation Commission meeting so that we unequivocally oppose what’s being done and our reservation shall be noted,” he said.
He cautioned the people that saffron parties will try everything to ensure that the seats are increased in areas where they feel they will do much better, and change the demography of each constituency. “They have very good friends on this side of the tunnel. This is why Assembly elections are more important than ever and will be Momentous and Mark a Watershed.”
