The Smart City is still a distant dream for the people living across Srinagar as the people have been continuously witnessing water logging in several areas, leaving the commuters as well as the pedestrians to lurch at large. One fails to understand why there has been no end to the inundation of the lanes, roads and bi-lanes. Despite claiming high and tall, the local populace here is facing the incompetence or the lethargy of the people at the helm. There are people who complain about the poor and faulty drainage system within the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) limits. The wet weather conditions from the last two days have exposed the tall claims of the concerned authorities. This comes at a time when the concerned authorities here have claimed to have spent crores of rupees for the renovation of the drainage system. Most of the streets and bi-lanes witnessed inundation today, thus causing hardships to the people especially the pedestrians. The ground situation continued to remain contrary to the official claims as the people continue to allege that they are being forced to face hardships due to the faulty drainage system. One fails to understand how long the people here would continue to face such hardships. There is a need to put an end to the inundation of the roads, lanes and bi-lanes so that something better can be witnessed amid the government’s move of creating Smart city here in Srinagar. The concerned authorities should take immediate steps in this regard to ensure that the people are not pushed to the wall so that they would not face any hardships.
