Srinagar, May 3: Amid ongoing Corona Curfew across Jammu and Kashmir, the roads here in Srinagar and other adjacent areas on Monday witnessed brisk vehicular movement coupled with traffic snarls at various vital junctions giving an impression as if there were some “relaxations in the curfew.”

The Corona Curfew continued across Jammu and Kashmir since Thursday evening. The government has announced lockdown across J&K till Thursday (May 06) in an order to prevent the virus from spreading.

However, eye-witnesses said that brisk private vehicular movement was recorded in several areas of Srinagar and other adjacent districts today.

They said that private vehicles in large number were seen plying normally in Hyderpora, Sonwar, Jahangir Chowk, Dalgate and other areas, which gave an impression that the lockdown restriction has been eased today.

Eye-witnesses informed that police and paramilitary troops were deployed although in large number to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places and bridges to thwart the public movement, they said.

Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments barring emergency services, standalone shops remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides, the public transport with 50 per cent seating capacity was also allowed to ply today by the authorities.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police said that 629 violators were fined while 46 FIRs registered and 81 persons were arrested today across Kashmir.

“During last 24 hours, Police has arrested 81 persons, lodged 46 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 93,620 from 629 people for violating the guidelines, rules throughout Kashmir,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

Besides, a police spokesman said that three vehicles were also seized in Budgam for violating guidelines and restrictions.

The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by the government to curb COVID-19 pandemic, police said.

Meanwhile, police urged people to cooperate in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs, guidelines and protocols for the safety of the people. “The special drive shall remain continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,” police said.
