Srinagar, May 4: The district hospital Shopian in South Kashmir is facing staff shortage since last several years besides that it is functioning without a CT scan facility due to which the work at the hospital is getting affected.
Official sources said that amid the Covid-19, the 100 bed Covid-19 designated district hospital Shopian is facing staff dearth.
They said that the hospital has just six nursing orderlies besides that there are just four ward boys.
They further added that the hospital has also been running without a pharmacist for the last two years.
They said that the district hospital has just six ventilators for both Covid as well as non-Covid patients and is also short of staff to operate the lifesaving machines.
In case cases of COVID-19 go up further, the staff shortage crisis will increase further, they said, adding that the hospital is facing shortage of anesthetic assistants, ECG technicians and head lab technicians.
Despite being a district hospital, there are no critical CT Scan and MRI facilities available at the hospital, they said.
A senior doctor from the hospital said that they have brought these issues in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail
Chief Medical Officer Shopian Dr Ramesh Malla said that for CT Scan, higher ups have been informed and very soon CT Scan facility will be available. He added that staff shortage issues are also being mitigated.
