Srinagar, Feb 5: An earthquake of moderate intensity shook Kashmir Valley on Saturday but no loss of life or damage to property has been reported from anywhere.
As per details from National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake was 5.7 in magnitude on Richter scale and its epicentre was at a depth of 181 kilometres Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region.
Its latitude was 36.34 degrees north and longitude 71.05 degrees east, a meteorological department official, quoting details from NCS New Delhi, said in a statement.
The earthquake which occurred around 9:46 a.m. lasted for few seconds and caused panic among the people, most of whom rushed outside their house for safety. People called family and enquired about their safety. (GNS)
