Need to shift focus on Dal Lake

The government has been doing every bid to ensure that there is no more encroachment on Gilsar and Khushalsar lakes, which were once prominent and home for many birds as well. However, at the same time, the government seems less focussed towards the world famous Dal Lake, which is attracting a huge chunk of tourists from and outside the country, ensuring livelihood to many people, especially youth. One fails to understand the dual policies being adopted by the concerned authorities as the way twin lakes including Gilsar and Khushalsar were given attention, is missing when it comes to the situation being witnessed in Dal Lake. Huge chunk of the land has already gone to the encroachers, while most of the water body is either polluted or could be seen filled with the weeds, which paints a grim picture of the world famous Dal Lake. Like other two lakes, the government should involve the civil society as well as press its men and machinery to ensure a visible change on the ground in Dal Lake. The water body happens to be the source of income for many and there is a need to ensure that it is kept alive for the years to come so that the unemployment is not swelled and the tourists continue to visit here to have a glimpse of Dal Lake. Our assets need to be protected for which the government has to play its pivotal role.
