Ganderbal, Feb 10: Residents of Hayan Gujjarpati village of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday castigated Jal Shakti department that their area is without potable drinking water for the last three months while the concern department is paying no attention towards sufferings.
The villagers said they receive water supply only 30 minutes per day and they approached the concerned department many times but all in vain.
“We received assurance of getting the regular water supply soon but no step has been taken by them in this matter so far,” they said.
The residents said that acute water scarcity has hit their village since the last four months while the officials are paying no heed towards their sufferings.
Local villagers also said that administration has failed to provide the basic facilities to the residents. The villages facing acute water scarcity include Gujjarpati, Chan Mohala Hayan and adjoining areas
A local lady said that the area has no water supply facilities available due to which they are suffering but no attention is being given towards them.
She added that in absence of potable water, they are forced to drink contaminated water
Locals said due to inclement weather from last four months they are unable to receive water supply.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
AEE Jal Shakti Kangan said Hayan Gujjarpati water supply scheme has already been approved but due to conflict between two villages, the work was stopped.
“If the two villages comprise then work will be started,” he said.
