The donations at the famous shrines in Jammu and Kashmir might have a great income, but a startling revelation that has come to a fore through a media report, has indicated that a huge chunk of amount doesn’t go into the account of Waqf Board, but is being deposited for the local Peer Sahabs. This revelation has shocked the entire population who were assuming that the Waqf Board has not been able to come up with some hospitals or educational institutions in the last several decades. It has been reported that 30 per cent of the donation is being received by the Waqf Board while 70 per cent goes into the account of Peer Sahabs, thus giving huge losses to the Waqf Board. There is a need to ensure that all the amount which people donates should be put into the accounts of the Waqf Board so that the amount, meant for the downtrodden section of the society, is utilized for the wellbeing of the poor people. The government as well as the concerned Waf Board officials must consider taking immediate steps in this regard and ensure that the donations goes only into the accounts of Waqf Board, which is the need of the hour so that the board is able to come up with hospitals and educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir, which would help in providing benefits to the downtrodden section of the society.
