Digital governance must deliver results

Why Pay-As-You-Consume is gaining momentum in 2026?

The frequent launch of demolition drives by the concerned agencies and departments in Jammu and Kashmir have failed to yield any better results as in the past ten years. The concerned officials have never come up with the figures regarding the amount of land retrieved from the encroachers at the wetlands. The hidden picture has always kept the people in the dark as besides issuing press statements regarding the issue, the people are unaware about the facts and doings of the government on the ground. One fails to understand the need of making statements when there seems no outcome of the drives being launched by the concerned agency. It has been years since the concerned agency has been tasked to put an end to the illegal structures and ensure no encroachment of wetlands anywhere across Srinagar and elsewhere. However, the wetlands continue to shrink across Kashmir as the encroachments are witnessing no end, thus putting a question mark over the claims of the administration, especially the concerned agency. The government has to come up with a fresh and stringent policy and ensure that the wetlands are prevented from encroachments and that the drives being launched are not stopped till a goal is achieved on the ground. The time has come to ensure transparency on the ground, thus there is a need to start a massive drive in this regard once for all and tighten noose against the norm violators so that the wetlands are preserved for the next generations.
