Gurez, Mar 10: The students as well as the locals Thursday locked the Government Higher Secondary School at Kilshay—a remote village of Tulail in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district as a mark of protest against the shortage of teachers.
The Higher Secondary School building was locked today morning by locals as well as the students at Kilshay Gurez to express their anguish against the lack of teaching faculty.
The school remained locked all day as the protesters refused to call off their protest, saying that the education of students has got affected as only one teacher is deputed there to teach about 200 students.
The protesters further alleged that the school is headless as no Principal has been deputed there, adding that the institute also lacks additional staff, thus affecting the smooth functioning of the Higher Secondary.
They vowed to continue their protest till the required staff is posted at the school.
“Several posts are lying vacant and the authorities are ignoring our demands. For the past many years, the school registered zero percent results in Class 10th and 12th due to shortage of teaching staff,” said Mohammad Jabbar, a local.
Demanding immediate posting of more staff at the school, Abdul Majeed, a student said the career of students is at stake due to the shortage of teachers.
Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Bandipora, Abdul Rouf said that 12 posts including that of Principal and 11 Lecturers are vacant at the institute. “We have already informed the higher authorities about it and we are expecting a positive response at earliest,” he added. (KNO)
