Once picturesque, the public parks at Srinagar are craving for government intervention as from the last over several months; the parks have not been maintained, thus turning the gardens into ruins. It has been nearly a year now when the government decided to handover the public parks within Srinagar areas to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), but the decision has only added to the miseries as the gardens have not been maintained since then. So far, the decision has proved to be useless as the motive behind it has not been achieved, thus putting the question mark over the government claims with regard to the development on the ground. One fails to understand why the decision was taken when the corporation is itself grappling to have gardeners to take care of these parks. Interestingly, SMC has no gardener to take care of these parks and thus simultaneously the decision is expected to turn the parks into ruins completely. These public parks, where locals used to visit especially in the evening hours during the summer season, are full of garbage and the flower beds as well as other related things are missing. There should have been proper homework before taking such a decision, but the lack of arrangements on the ground is indicating non-seriousness of the administration in ensuring beautification of these public parks. There is a need to take immediate measures in his regard and ensure that the public parks are beautified once again and the local dwellers could heave a sigh of relief.
