The soaring prices of essentials, especially the food stuff in the market has certainly affected the people belonging to any class whether rich, middle or poor. However, one cannot even imagine the sufferings of Contingent Paid Workers (CPWs) of the education department, who as per the reports are still being paid Rs 25 to Rs 500 as monthly honorarium. One cannot even term the amount as less because the sum they are getting every month is not even sufficient to get the food stuff for a day. These CPWs have been serving in the department since long while majority of them have provided the land to the school education department following which they were promised secure jobs, which has not taken place till yet, thus leaving them to lurch at large. Serving in the department and working for nearly six hours a day to get just Rs 500 is nothing less than a grave human rights violation, but the government has turned blind eye towards their sufferings and continued with the decades-old policies of successive regimes here in Jammu and Kashmir. The incumbent administration in Jammu and Kashmir must come up with some favourable decisions for the CPWs so that the previous policies would not continue and the deserving lot would heave a sigh of relief. There is a need to consider fulfilling the demands of these working CPWs at the earliest to ensure a change on the ground.
