Dependency on foreign technology, new threats to national security

The celebrations have once again kept the departments and officers busy throughout the day on the eve of International Forest Day. The world has celebrated the day Monday, but only a few would remain firm to ensure that the forests are preserved to ensure better life for man and nature. However, in Kashmir, the people, especially the departments remain abuzz with activities on this day to show positivity towards ensuring betterment of the atmosphere, but the factual situation is always contrary as the department concerned has failed to put an end to the loot of green gold here. It has been witnessed that the timber smugglers are usually being caught by the department for their illegal activities, but such events are not coming to an end for a longer period now as the incidents continue to take place almost every day. One fails to understand why there has been no end to the loot of green gold and why the forest land is shrinking with each passing day. It is not only the government that is to be blamed for such a situation, but the people especially the illegal timber smugglers are also responsible for the situation on the ground. In case the present loot continues, the time is not far when Jammu and Kashmir would witness no forest land and thus the man & animal conflicts would possibly record a rise as well. Therefore, in order to preserve the forests, there is a need to take preventive measures so that the situation is put under control well on time.
