Srinagar, Apr 15: Inhabitants of Zaindar Mohalla area of Habba Kadal on Friday morning staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department for ‘miserably failing’ to provide adequate water supply to them from the last four months.
Dozens of women from the locality blocked the main road, causing a huge traffic mess in the area, witnesses said.
The protesting residents were seen chanting slogans, they said.
“It has been nearly four months that the consumers in this area are not getting adequate water supply. We have been given assurances multiple times by the authorities, but nothing has been done in this regard,” the residents said.
“In the holy month of Ramadhan, we are being deprived of this basic facility. Inadequate water supply even in this month is nothing but a cruelty,” the residents said, adding that the concerned authorities don’t bother to look into the plights of the consumers, thus leaving them to lurch at large.
They demanded the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar and top officials of Jal Shakti department to look into the matter and redress their genuine demands at an earliest.
Moreover, the residents called off their protest after assurances were given to them by the local police. (KNO)
