Rajendra Singh, water conservationist and environmentalist from Alwar district, Rajasthan in India, is known as “waterman of India”, he won the Magsaysay Award in 2001 and Stockholm Water Prize in 2015. He runs an NGO called ‘Tarun Bharat Sangh’ (TBS), which was founded in 1975.
They said that Singh would visit Boniyar through a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), namely Vishwagram Trust.
Singh will be on a five-six day visit to Boniyar. He will do ‘Padyatra’ from Boniyar to Uri in five-six days during which he will interact with the people and create awareness among them with regard to water conservation.
However, they said that the dates have not been finalized yet, but he the waterman of India will be visiting after Eid-ul-Fitr.
Meanwhile, Sub District Magistrate (SDM), Uri, Harvinder Singh in a tweet also confirmed his visit to Boniyar.
“Horrifying news of drying up of Springs (especially in Boniyar) is being received. To check this, Sh Rajendra Singh (Waterman of India) is visiting Uri-Boniyar & shall help us in Water Conservation efforts,” SDM Uri tweeted.
SDM Uri said that the waterman of India is visiting on the recommendations of a local NGO, but at the end of the day, it is an appreciable and welcome step.
“Presently there is rainfall deficient, which has resulted in drying up of water bodies.
