Srinagar, Apr 18: A Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel was killed and another was injured when a pistol-borne militant shot them from a point blank range in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
A top police officer said that two cops of Railway Police were injured after militants attacked them at Kakapora area of the district.
Both the injured personnel were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. However one of them succumbed to the wounds, he said.
As per CCTV footage of the incident, in circulation on some social media groups, a militant comes and fires at the personnel from behind while sitting in a chair apparently taking tea at a roadside Dhaba. Both the men fall on the ground while the militant runs away a few meters on foot before boarding a bike.
“Today at about 1805 hours, police received information about a militant incident at Kakapora area of Pulwama where (militants) had indiscriminately fired upon two RPF personnel namely ASI Devraj Kumar and Head constable Surinder Kumar, outside Railway Station Kakapora,” police said in a statement. “In this incident, both the personnel received critical gunshot injuries and were immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment to their injuries; however, Surinder Kumar succumbed to his injuries.” He said police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation. “Officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the case while the whole area has been cordoned off with the help of reinforcement and search in the area is going on”.
