Two ‘Hybrid’ JeM militants arrested in Pattan: Police

Baramulla, Apr 26: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that they have arrested two hybrid Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants from Pattan area of Baramulla in North Kashmir, officials said.
Police officials said that based on specific reliable inputs regarding movement of two militants in a vehicle towards Srinagar, today, joint MVCPs were placed at various spots along the national highway and surrounding by-lanes.
“A speeding Tavera swerving in a suspicious manner was signalled to stop in Hanjiveera Bala area, however the vehicle stopped abruptly and two individuals jumped off the vehicle and fled towards nearby wooded orchard area, ” the police officials said.
“Joint parties gave chase to the two and the escape route cut offs were also activated who succeeded in nabbing the duo, ” they said, adding that the detained individuals were identified as Mohd Aqib Mir son of Mohd Ramzan Mir and Danish Ahad Dar son of Abdul Ahad Dar both the residents of Sopore.
The police said that the seizure and search of the vehicle led to the recovery of incriminating materials including 2 Chinese pistols, 2 pistol magazines, ammunition 10 rounds and 2 Chinese grenades.
“So far in the investigation, it has transpired that the duo belong to JeM hybrid module and were looking for targeting of PRIs and minority and outsiders, ” the police added.
The police further said that the successful apprehension of the militants has foiled major terror plots and busted a module that was aiding the execution of various attacks including the killing of sarpanchs etc.
Meanwhile, SSP Baramulla Rayees Bhat said that the impact of militancy in Baramulla has been minimal. “We will continue to strive to clean off this district of militancy,” he said.
