Keep Kashmir connected

There was a time when the dowry system was considered the biggest sin in Kashmir, but the ground realities have changed as the situation has reached the place where the women are being killed for dowry. In one such instance, a lady from northern district of Kashmir-Baramulla, has allegedly been tortured on the day when Muslims across the country were celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr. She suffered grievous injuries while being thrashed allegedly by the in-laws as well as her husband. Such were the wounds that the lady couldn’t survive for more than a week as she succumbed to her injuries at a hospital here in Srinagar where she was undergoing treatment for the last six days. This incident is testimony to the fact that the women here are being pushed to the wall. However, these incidents are putting responsibility on the shoulders of every single individual within the society to play their role to put an end to such nuisance at an earliest so that the society is free from these evils, who for their vested interests are adding bad name to the society. Although the authorities have assured stringent action against those found involved in the death of the lady, there is a need to come up with unique and stern action so that the people involved in such actions are taken to the task. The punishment to the involved must be exemplary so that no one could dare in the future to harass the women for dowry and other related issues.
