Srinagar, May 18: Scores of residents from several areas of Srinagar here on Wednesday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti department for ‘failing’ to provide adequate water supply to them.
The residents of Tankipora area of Habba Kadal, Pathar Masjid at Maharaj Gunj locality hit the streets today and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
The residents said that the department has miserably failed to ensure adequate water supply to them, which has simultaneously affected the locals.
“Most of the time, our taps are running dry. We are not even able to quench the thirsty due to the inadequate water supply to the locality,” they said.
Demanding immediate redressal of their grievances, the residents said that the necessary measures must be taken to put an end to the sufferings of inhabitants here.
Moreover, the residents from some other localities including Chattabal area also complained of inadequate water supply to them, saying that they are facing immense hardships in absence of adequate water supply.
Meanwhile, Chief Engineer, Jal Shakti department, Basharat Jeelani said that he has already directed the officials to ensure that the grievances are redressed by tomorrow morning.
“There is no issue of rise in temperature and deficient rainfall, but whatever the problems are being faced by these consumers, will be addressed till tomorrow,” he said. (KNO)
