Budgam, May 19: Protests by Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) over the killing of their colleague Rahul Bhat by militants continued for the eighth consecutive day on Thursday at Sheikhpura Budgam.
The KP’s who are on a sit-in at Pandit colony Sheikhpora against the killing of their colleague, for the eight days, have been demanding their relocation to a safe environment.
Protesters continued their sit-in at Pandit Colony Sheikhpura and during day hours they came out on Srinagar- Budgam road to register their protest. However, they peacefully went back into the colony after the intervention of officials.
“Nothing concrete has been done in the past one week. That’s why we are protesting on roads,” a protester said. “We will continue our protest until the government takes some strong steps to protect us and send us to safer locations,” a protester said. “Till government fulfills all our demands, protests will continue.”
He said the prime demand of protesters is that the government should give an acceptable compensation to the family of slain Rahul Bhat and relocate KPs to safer locations. “The government should think about the safety of all Kashmiri minorities and also Kashmiri Muslims,” the protesters said. Other protesters echoed similar concerns and demanding immediate redressal of their grievances.
The KP members are up in the arms since past one week in the wake of the killing of their colleague Rahul Bhat. Rahul was killed inside Tehsil office Chadoora, Budgam by militants last week. He is survived by his parents, wife and a little daughter. J&K administration has announced job for Rahul’s wife and announced that it will bear all education related expenses of his daughter.
