Srinagar, Jun 1: A civilian was shot at and injured by unknown gunmen suspected to be militants in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday evening.
Officials said that at about 2100 hours, militants fired on a civilian, Farooq Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh near his residence Rakh-Chidren Keegam.
“He had sustained gunshot injuries in his leg and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment,” a police spokesperson said. His condition is said to be stable, he said.
“Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law,” he said, adding, “investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this crime,” he said, adding, “Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on.” (GNS)
