Festivals and sufferings of poor people

The festivals always bring hustle-bustle in the markets, but at the same time, there is no one to safeguard the interests of the downtrodden section of the society as the shopkeepers, vendors and others don’t adhere to the government fixed rates, thus leaving the poor people to lurch at large. The festivals are meant to be celebrated, but the poor families are always being pushed to the wall as the people in the market are out to sell the products including eatables, utensils and clothes at the exorbitant rates. However, it is unfortunate that nobody bothers to act against these shopkeepers despite claiming high and tall. Many eatables are being sold at exorbitant rates, which include fruits, mutton, chicken and other things. The mutton that is supposed to be sold at the rate of less than Rs 550, is being sold at the cost of Rs 620/kg. The rates of fruits, like Bananas, Apple and others are also skyrocketing as a result of which the people who belong to the downtrodden section of the society are not able to buy these products. The claims being made by the concerned department in ensuring the implementation of government fixed rates have always fallen flat and this time as well. There is a need to gear up at this juncture to prove the words and ensure that the poor people are not pushed to the wall and they are not forced to face hardships on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha. The poor people also deserve to celebrate Eid and thus nobody should force them to suffer and rather help them to come out of the trauma created by the skyrocketing prices.
