Srinagar, Jul 5: Around 49 percent of the children in Jammu and Kashmir under six years of age are receiving service from Anganwadi centres, the National Health and Family Survey-5 (NHFS-5) has reported.
As per report, forty-nine percent of children under six years received services of some kind from an Anganwadi centre in the 12 months preceding the survey.
“The most common services that age-eligible children receive are supplementary food (48%), early childhood care or preschool (42% of children age 3-6 years), growth monitoring (41%), and health check-ups (39%),” it said.
“The service that is least likely to be accessed is immunization (26%). Slightly more than three-fifths (61%) of mothers of children who were weighed at an Anganwadi centre received counselling from an Anganwadi worker or an ANM. Among children under six years, more than one-third (39%) of their mothers received any service from an Anganwadi or preschool centre during pregnancy, and slightly more than one-third (35%) of their mothers received any service while breastfeeding,” it added.
The ICDS programme provides nutrition and health services for children under age six years and pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as preschool activities for children age 3-5 years.
These services are provided through community-based Anganwadi centres.
