Srinagar, Jul 20: The Eid-ul-Adha, festival of sacrifice, will be observed with religious zeal and fervor across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. There will be no Eid prayers at Eidgah Srinagar while as prayers will be offered at Dargah Hazratbal and other major shrines and Masjids across Kashmir.
Notably, Eid-ul-Adha is being observed on the 10th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, last month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims offer a goat or sheep as a sacrificial animal on this Eid.
Allah ordered Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (AS). When the blindfolded father moved the blade on his son’s throat to carry out the divine command, an animal from heaven replaced Ismail. It is to celebrate the absolute submission of Prophet Ibrahim to Allah’s command and the saving of Hazrat Ismail’s life that Muslims offer animal sacrifices on Eid-ul-Adha.
Meanwhile, no Eid prayers will be held at Eidgah Srinagar while as prayers will be offered at other shrines and Masjids including Dargah Hazratbal on Sunday.
An official of J&K Waqf Board said that there is a weather forecast of heavy downpour for the coming few days and it would not be possible for the Waqf to make requisite arrangements.
He said that the Waqf has advised the Jamia Auqaf to ask followers to offer prayers in covered spaces of local Masjids.
Notably, Anjuman Auqaf had on July 06 written to the J&K Waqf board to make necessary arrangements for offering Eid prayers at 9 am at Eidgah Srinagar on July 10.
Auqaf has also stated that in case of inclement weather, the congregational Eid prayers will be offered at the Central Jamia Masjid, Srinagar at the scheduled time and all arrangements are pre-requisite there as well for the ease of devotees.
As per the Islamic teachings, the Muslims across the UT will start performing the act of sacrificing animals following the congregational Eid prayers as this Eid is being observed to commemorate Prophet Ibraham’s (AS) willingness to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ismaeel (AS).
Meanwhile, the markets in Kashmir especially the commercial Hub Lal Chowk and other adjacent areas in Srinagar witnessed a huge rush of shoppers from past several days, who were seen buying essentials and other food stuff for the Eid.
