DRDO’s COVID Care Hospital to be ready by May 25

Jammu, May 21: Defense Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) new 500-bed COVID hospital at Jammu will be ready by May 25.
Two 500- bed temporary hospitals were announced by Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh for Jammu and Srinagar to provide advanced facilities for COVID patients, where the number of people affected by the dreaded virus is increasing day by day.
A high level team of DRDO officials had finalized the site, where work was started two weeks ago, which is nearly in the completion stage.
“The other works like construction of approach road, dedicated feeder for uninterrupted power supply, water supply, telephone and internet connections are going on a war-footing basis,” said a technician involved in the construction.
As per officials the hospital will be ready for public by May 25.
“The temporary hospital will have two pre-fabricates halls with 250-beads each. Each bed has a dedicated oxygen vent, which is very crucial for COVID patients,” said an official adding, “In addition to the hospital bed, the temporary building will have three small halls for accommodation and OPDs of doctors.”
The officials said that DRDO special Hospital will work on Military Hospitals (MH) model where nursing staff and doctors will take care of the patients, and attendants may not be allowed inside the COVID care wards.
“The admission to the hospital is assisted by state health administration and civil administration and no direct admission will take place,” officials informed.
Talking to State Observer, Lt Col Devender Anand PRO (Defence), Jammu said that DRDO’s hospital will go a long way in easing the problems of COVID patients in the Jammu region where the number is surging day by day.
He added that in addition, the hospital army and defence ministry assisted civil administration to contain the spread of COVID by organizing awareness camps in rural areas.
“To tackle the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, Army has been conducting awareness drives and COVID-19 Vaccination in most far-flung areas of Jammu division,” he said and adding that focused was laid on addressing the myths associated with vaccination including imparting knowledge on probable side effects.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir administration appointed superintendent and deputy superintendent for the upcoming 500 bedded temporary Covid Hospital in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
The administration also advertised 313 new posts for engagement (on contractual posts) for the hospital.
The advertisements issued here by GMC Jammu has invited as per Performa, from eligible candidates, for engagement in this 500 bedded temporary COVID Hospital initially for a period of one year extendable up to maximum of three years (One year at a time and further extension subject to good performance and conduct.
