80 animals killed, makeshift tent swept away after cloudburst in Ramban

Ramban, Aug 17: At least 80 sheep and goats were killed and 15 injured when a makeshift tent and livestock were swept away after cloudburst hit near Jawahar Tunnel in Banihal area of Ramban district on Wednesday, officials said here.
An official said that a cloudburst hit near Jawahar Tunnel area after heavy rainfall in the area.
“Today at 04:00 am cloudburst took place at Shiva Post at Jawahar Tunnel top Banihal, a makeshift tent of Manzoor Ahmed son of Abdul Rahim, a resident of Dhani Bakhta Kathua presently he was in a makeshift tent at Tunnel Top which came under heavy landslide due to cloud burst”, he said.
He said a makeshift tent along with 80 sheep and goats were unfortunately washed away in the calamity while 15 sheep/goats are injured, however, no human has been reported in the incident.
LG Manoj Sinha directed district administration Ramban to provide immediate relief to the nomad families affected by cloudburst near Jawahar Tunnel.
“Directed the district administration Ramban to provide immediate relief to the nomad families affected by cloudburst near Jawahar Tunnel. SDPO, SHO, Tehsildar rushed towards the spot with food & shelter. Financial assistance to be provided at the earliest,” LG Sinha said in a tweet.
