Notwithstanding the claims being made by the government with regard to ensuring better healthcare facilities to the people, the incomplete buildings of Public Health centres and other facilities are putting a question mark over the contrary statements on the ground.
A few reports that came in the limelight only yesterday have pointed out the non-seriousness of the health department vis-a-vis completion of the buildings for which the construction work was started years ago.
In Maharaj Gunj area of Srinagar, a PHC that exists from the last over 145 years is currently functioning from makeshift rooms in a park, which sans adequate space and thus simultaneously putting brakes on conducting a number of tests including x-ray. The work on the new building has been started after the 2014 deluge damaged the previous building, but despite elapsing eight years, the building awaits completion, affecting the health care there.
Similarly, the authorities have also failed to complete the construction work of PHC in Chandil area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, which has been going on for over 15 years.
One fails to understand how the health department would be able to ensure better health care when these centres like many are functioning from the places, which san the proper and adequate spaces.
Therefore, in order to prove the words and ensure implementation of the assurances on the ground, there is a need to complete the pending projects at the shortest possible time so that the people would be able to get the treatment at such centres, which would also reduce the burden on the tertiary care hospitals and District Hospitals.
