Bandipora, Sep 14: Even after 12 years, construction work on Government High School at Pannar, a remote village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora, is still incomplete, locals complained on Tuesday.
As per the details available, the construction work of the high school was started in 2010 at an estimated cost of Rs 42 lakh but despite the passing of almost 11 years, the building is yet to be completed as the department left the construction work mid-way.
Locals said that due to the lackadaisical approach of higher authorities the smooth functioning of the school had been suffering badly for a long time. The locals said that the secondary school is functioning in an old primary school building which is not in a favourable condition, thus leaving the both student and teachers in deteriorated conditions.
“We have approached the administration several times about the pending work of this school but nothing is happening yet,” Abdul Qyoom a local said, adding, ‘It seems that the future of our children is at stake here looking at the deplorable school situation’.
He said that the teachers who have been posted here are also fed up with the condition of this school. We don’t understand why the management is not doing half the work,” he added.
Rameez Ahmad, another local said that considering the concerns of students and teachers, the administration should complete the pending work of this building as soon as possible and make it functional.
The locals and students appealed the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha to personally look into the matter and ask the concerned department to expedite the construction work and complete the project without any further delay.
