Police arrest 6 notorious drug peddlers in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 14: Police have arrested 6 notorious drug peddlers in a series of actions across Kashmir and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances.
In Shopian, a police party of Police Station Heerpora at a checkpoint established on Mughal Road at Dubjan, intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration number PB02EH-4676 with four person on board. They have been identified as Sharangeet Sing son of Bulvinder Sing resident of Khapad Kheeri Amritsar Punjab, Mohd Rafiq Ganie son of Abdul Aziz Ganie resident of Hermain Shopian, Raj Kumar son of Sham Lal resident of Pind Baghykay Athhard District Fazalka Punjab and Gurjanat Sing son of Gisvinder Sing resident of Geevanda Khurad District Tarantarn Punjab. During search, officers were able to recover 325Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession.
Similarly in Pulwama, Police received specific information that two persons namely Fayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Gulam Rasool Bhat resident of Parigam and Abdul Rashid Bhat son of Mohd Shaban Bhat resident of Konjipora are indulged in drug peddling and also hoarded large quantities of contraband substances in their residential houses. Subsequently, Police swung into action and raided the said locations along with respective Executive Magistrates. During search of these houses, 88 Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from the said residential houses. However, the accused persons escaped from the spot and efforts are on to effect their arrest.
In another action, Police at a checkpoint established at Tahab Chowk Pulwama intercepted two suspected persons carrying a bag who tried to flee from the spot after noticing police party but were apprehended tactfully. They have been identified as Naseer Ahmad Dar son of Gulam Hassan Dar & Hilal Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Khaliq Wani, both residents of Ghat Tiken Pulwama. During checking, 12 Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
