Student-friendly measures need of the hour

Everything that has got affected due to the situation that arises in wake of deadly COVID-19 pandemic has been and can be compensated. However, the only thing that can never be compensated, is the education of the students. The schools, colleges and universities are shut due to the spike in the COVID-19 cases across Jammu and Kashmir. It is for the second time in over one year that the government has ordered closure of the educational institutions in a bid to prevent the virus from spreading and to keep the children healthy. One cannot even imagine the losses suffered by the students, who have not attended the virtual classes since long. Amid such a situation, the government as per the reports is mulling to start regular tele-classes for 9th to 12th standard of all major subjects to compensate the academic losses, for which the department has drafted a proposal and is going to submit it to the government for approval. As far as Tele-classes for other classes is concerned, the department has lined-up the schedule with the concerned Television channel operators and will probably start telecasting from this week only. Nonetheless, there is a need to take more and more effective decisions for the wellbeing of the student community so that their losses can be compensated without any further delay. The government should speed up its measures in this regard and ensure that the tele-classes are started forthwith across Jammu and Kashmir so that the poor students could heave a sigh of relief.
