Despite issuing the tenders and getting the allocation for the macadamization process, the roads in Srinagar city continue to remain in shambles, thereby leaving the local commuters to lurch at large. Two months have elapsed since the government released Rs 20 crore funds for the macadamization process to Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), but one fails to understand why the concerned authorities have failed to take measures to bring respite to the commuters. It seems that the delay in starting the macadamization process would end up in lapse of funds. The funds have been released for the mandatory macadamization after the gap of nearly three years, but the commuters here are being pushed to the wall as the authorities are seemingly reluctant to carry forward the process. It is unfortunate that the government is not taking keen interest in resolving the genuine issues of the people as despite allocating funds, the ground work continues to remain missing, which adds to the miseries of the people. There is a dire need to come up with the proper procedure and ensure that the works, for which the funds are allocated, are executed at the shortest possible time so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief. The macadamization of the roads in Srinagar is the need of the hour and any further delay in this regard should be dealt with strictly and the administration must direct the concerned officials to start the process at earliest so that the works are completed before the onset of winter season.
