Of 5030 isolation beds, 2754 occupied in JK

Srinagar, May 25: Amid the spike in Covid-19 cases, almost all tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu are running short of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds.
Of 154 beds designated as COVID ICU beds in Kashmir, around 66 beds have already been occupied, the officials informed.
A top health official said that 88 COVID ICU beds are presently vacant in Kashmir division while the three main tertiary care hospitals in Srinagar are running short of ICU beds as all the available beds are fully occupied.
An official said three tertiary care hospitals of Srinagar including SKIMS Soura, SKIMS Medical College Hospital Bemina and SMHS Srinagar are having 100 percent occupancy of the ICU beds and not even a single bed is vacant at present.
An official said that at SKIMS Soura, 370 beds including 340 isolation and 30 ICU beds have been kept reserved for Covid patients and among them 225 isolation and all ICU beds are occupied.
At SMHS, an official said, there are 300 beds kept for Covid patients including 288 isolation beds and 12 COVID ICU beds and among them 257 isolation beds and all 11 ICU beds are full while there is a vacancy of 31 isolation beds.
“At SKIMS Bemina, of 154 beds including 146 isolation beds and eight ICU beds, 115 isolation beds and all eight ICU beds are occupied,” an official said.
“At CD hospital, of 94 total bed capacity, 77 are isolation beds and 17 are ICU beds, among them five ICU beds and four isolation beds are available,” an official said.
An official at JLNM hospital out of 213 including 200 isolation and 13 ICU beds, 136 Isolation and 10 ICU beds are vacant.
The ICU beds which are vacant in Kashmir so far include five at GMC Baramulla, seven at SDH Sopore, seven at Trauma Hospital Bijbehara, six at district Hospital Bandipora, four at CHC Chanapora, 10 at MCH wing Kulgam, four at AMT School Shopian, 10 at District hospital Pulwama, 12 at District hospital Gandebal and eight at CHC Kupwara.
In Kashmir division out of 2,729 isolation beds 1,527 beds are full and 1,202 are vacant. Among 154 isolation beds 66 are full and 88 are vacant.
In the Jammu division, no ICU beds are vacant at GMC Jammu, CD hospital Jammu and Gandhi Nagar hospital (new block) Jammu, however, 8 ICU beds are vacant at Gandhi Nagar old block and 11 at Super Speciality hospital Jammu.
The ICU beds vacant at other hospitals include three at GMC Doda, six at CHC Baderwah, 10 at GMC Rajouri, nine at GMC Kathua, six at AK Gupta hospital Kuthua, two at District hospital Poonch, seven at district hospital Udhampur, 10 at District hospital Samba and five at CHC Samba.
Officials said that in total, out of 2,301 isolation beds, 1,083 are vacant and of 300 ICU beds, 106 are vacant in Jammu division.
Pertinently, there are around 45,000 active positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
