Srinagar, Oct 11: At least 30 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) were reported in Kashmir so far with 100 percent recovery.
A top health official said that all the 30 infected recovered and no fresh case was reported in the last few days.
The official, wishing not to be named, said that 13 cases were reported from a single school while 17 were reported in another school and all of them have returned to their schools.
All these viral illnesses are self-limiting and isolated, proper hygiene, cough etiquette, and hand washing is key to success, the official said.
The HFMD is a human syndrome caused by intestinal viruses of the Picornaviridae family.
Experts believe that the HFMD is a self-limiting infection and complications are very rare.
They said that there is a need to confirm HFMD through serology and some other infections can cause similar symptoms.
HFMD is characterized by blisters or sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet, they said, adding the infection can affect people of all ages especially having weak immunity but the infection mainly occurs in children under age 5. Meanwhile, an official said that no fresh case has been reported from any part of the Valley. “The health department is fully geared up and ready to tackle any situation,” the official said.
