Bandipora, Oct 31: Athwatoo and Sirander, two summer tourist destinations in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district are still without network connectivity, holding up the real potential of these places.
Tourists visiting these spots complained that they were disappointed because of lack of mobile connectivity. “In case of urgency, they said they have to travel several kilometers to make a simple phone call to their respective families,” they said.
“We have been yearning for the internet for years now. Even we have to walk almost two kilometre away from our village to find a spot where the phone catches a signal for the internet. I prefer to stay in the main town instead of my village,” Abdul Hameed, a local from Athwatoo said.
Owing to no internet connectivity, he says that students struggled to attend online classes even during Covid pandemic. “In this digital era, when internet and mobile phone connectivity is an integral part of our lives, the people here are struggling for mobile network connectivity,” he added.
“I would urge everyone to visit here but lack of mobile connectivity is an issue and authorities should bring the area on digital map,” said Ajmal, a visitor from Sopore said while praising the beauty of Sirander.
The residents and visitors appealed to the concerned authorities as well as private cellular companies to install towers in these areas, so that they can avail mobile phone network facility with ease. (KNO)
