Centre sets up high-level committee to identify gaps in JK’s urban planning

Srinagar, Nov 21: With the Government of India setting up a high-level panel for identifying gaps in urban planning in Jammu & Kashmir, the administration of J&K on Monday constituted a committee headed by the chief secretary to coordinate with the central panel and implement its recommendations.
In a significant move, the Government of India has constituted a high-level committee for identifying gaps in urban planning in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
As a sequel to the Centre’s move, the administration of J&K UT today constituted a high-powered committee headed by CS to coordinate with it.
According to an order, the CS-led panel has also been mandated to frame the action plan for implementation of the remedial measures/ recommendations of the central high-level committee for strengthening urban planning in J&K.
The committee comprising bureaucrats and experts from urban affairs will be serviced by the Housing & Urban Development Department.
The CS-led committee comprises of administrative secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, divisional commissioner Kashmir/ Jammu, chief town planner Kashmir/ Jammu, representatives of World Resource Institute( India), representatives of the Indian Institute of Human Settlements, representatives of National Institute of Urban Affairs(NIUA), representatives of JANAAGRAHA, Bangalore and representatives of Indian Institute of Public Administration, Delhi.
As per the order, the chairman of the committee is empowered to nominate any person with strong academic and professional background in the field as a member of the committee.
