Pulwama, Nov 30: In absence of any dumping site, the Municipal Committee in Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district continues to dump garbage along national highway-44 in Dangerpora area, making the life of locals living there difficult.
The residents of Dangarpora Padgampora on Wednesday staged a protest and demanded shifting of this site.
Protestors said that the authorities are dumping garbage along the circular road in Dangarpora along national highway due to which local residents as well as the commuters and pedestrians face lot of inconvenience.
They said that on regular basis, the garbage is dumped at the spot due to which local residents, students, pedestrians and others are facing lot of inconvenience.
Younis Ahmad, a local resident said that all the dirt and heaps of garbage collected from the entire town and even from Tral and other areas is dumped here which is very close to residential area. This leads to lot of stink and attracts stray dogs as well.
He said that the foul smell coming from the dumping site is also causing problems for the locals and there are chances that disease can break in the area.
Despite having space available at many places authorities have chosen this point to dump the garbage thereby creating problems for the inhabitants, said Rukhsana, a local resident. “We fear for safety of our children’s as street dogs are roaming freely and they have already bitten some persons. Our children are fearing to go along the route due to the fear of stray dogs as school is near the site.”
Locals said that birds like crows and others are picking the dirt from the site and then throwing on residential structures which has made life of locals hell.
The locals have now requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter and stop dumping waste at the site.
They requested higher ups to shift the dumping site so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
