Srinagar, Dec 5: Due to the excessive use of fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals, soil is fasting losing its health paving way for catastrophic impact on soil as well as humans, experts said on Monday.
They suggested people to act very responsibly and preserve soil besides could help land managers to increase the soil-ability.
Dr Zulfiqar Siddiqui, an expert said that the over exploitation of soil on unscientific lines is one of the main reasons behind its deterioration.
He said that the pressure of population explosion and all sorts of pollution is responsible for the deteriorating condition of the soil as well.
“We must be conscious and act responsibly so as to preserve soil for future generations,” suggested Dr Siddiqui.
Dr Parvaiz, another expert, said that soil is under tremendous strain because of deforestation, urbanization, erosion, loss of soil biodiversity, improper agricultural practices, salinization, nutrient depletion and chemical pollution.
He said that with deforestation underway, it will have very harmful environmental hazards and people must avoid excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and should prefer organic fertilizers.
“We need to work on how to make land productive which has become unfertile due to excessive use of fertilizers. Besides, we need to think about the limited land available for production on how to feed the growing population in the world. So, we must act responsibly and preserve soil for future generations as well,” Dr Parvaiz added.
