Srinagar, Dec 10: Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla on Saturday said they have been managing maximum services on minimum infrastructure and people need to cooperate with them.
Principal GMC Baramulla Dr Ruby Reshie said that the District Hospital was upgraded as an associated hospital of GMC Baramulla but physically its infrastructure is still the same because additional 200 beds are not ready yet.
“Load of all sections of the associated hospital along with the Medical College is on the hospital, which was defunct and in dilapidated condition,” she said.
Of 140, only 10 washrooms were in use with no drainage and they along with the Roads and Building department prepared DPR for repair and renovation, Dr Ruby said.
“Our patient footfall is increasing with each passing day, which remains in between 200-2500 per day and under such conditions, how one can expect that it can efficiently function,” she added.
“We have been trying to bring a work culture with efficient patient services but it is taking time as there was a nexus which we aren’t allowing and some complaints are true which are being rectified while some are just for personal interests and for pressure tactics,” Dr Ruby added.
Asked about recent viral videos of the GMC Baramulla, she said that washrooms were being repaired and were not being used for months together.
“The R&B was repairing washrooms of casualty, emergency and other blocks. The door of the washroom was broken and cotton was kept there. Things from the dustbin of wards were thrown there and this could be mischief, which needs to be investigated,” she said.
Asked about sexual harassment case, Dr ruby said they have a women cell besides disciplinary committee and a case of sexual harassment has been enquired, which has been brought in notice of concerned officials.
On asking about the malfunctioning of the GMC, she said that the inquiry officer has visited the college and he knows how the hospital is managing maximum services on minimum infrastructure.
“My message to the people of north Kashmir is to maintain patience and don’t compare GMC Baramulla with GMC Srinagar,” she said.
