Keep Kashmir connected

Over a year has elapsed when the City Mayor had announced that the measures to curb the rising dog population will be started within a few months, however, the concerned Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) seems least bothered to make sure that the terror unleashed by the stray dogs is put to an immediate end. In the recent statement, SMC Commissioner, Athar Aamir Khan has claimed that 80 per cent work on the dog sterilization facility has been done at Tengpora area here, which indicates how the mandatory process is being delayed, leaving the local populace to the wall. The media has been highlighting the concerns of people, especially in Srinagar almost everyday as the number of stray dogs in every locality of Srinagar, are increasing rapidly, pushing the people to the wall. The people, especially the children hesitate to come out of their homes especially in morning and evening hours due to the threat of stray dogs, but the authorities hardly bother to ensure speedy action in this regard, thus leaving the people to lurch at large. Despite claiming high and tall, the ground situation has always remained adverse. At this juncture, there is a need to ensure early completion of dog sterilization facilities in Srinagar and elsewhere so that a process is started at an earliest to reduce the number of stray dogs and the people could heave a sigh of relief. Moreover, the concerned authorities should also reduce the number of dustbin on the roads that witness huge number of stray dogs every day and make the lives of people miserable.
