Budgam, Jan 19: The Bonahama Kawpora road in this central Kashmir’s Budgam district is in a dilapidated condition for the last two decades, causing inconvenience to people.
The locals said that the “worst condition” of the road has been giving them nightmares.
“Due to non-repairing, potholes have developed on a large stretch of the road and the drains are often blocked, which further damages the road,” said a local.
The residents said they have several times raised the issue with the concerned department but nothing has been done so far.
“This village lacks many basic facilities. Since 2000, the road has not been macadamized despite being just 12 kilometres away from the office of the Deputy Commissioner Budgam,” Aijaz Ahmad Rather, a local at Bonahama, said.
Another local, Ghulam Rasool, said, “The road connects Bonahama to Sholipora and several other villages. We even cast our votes for development but we have been ignored like we don’t even exist.”
The locals said that despite repeated appeals to the administration, their voices remain unheard.
A student of the village said, “We are facing problems while traveling from Bonahama to town as there is no public transport. We have to walk 4 kilometres to commute public transport.”
Bonahama village is put in the general category while there are no basic amenities like water, proper electricity, road connectivity and other facilities.
