Keep Kashmir connected

On June 05, the world like in the past has yet again observed Environment day. However, the ground situation is contrary to what people have been claiming on this day and what people are suggesting for. A number of webinars and awareness programmes have been organized throughout Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the day. One fails to understand whether these programmes being organized in four walls can help in bringing a solution to the existing environmental situation. It is a fact that we have damaged the environment very badly and thus simultaneously our existence is also at risk in case we don’t put an end to our habits and ensure the environment is not polluted any further. If we talk about Kashmir only, the people used to gaze at many lakes in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Nonetheless, the situation has changed and the people are now able to stare at only one lake known as Dal Lake. The worsening situation has prompted a civil society to come forward for the cleansing of previously existing Khushalsar and Gilsar lakes, who have been taking forward the mission of restoring the pristine glory of once famous lakes. There is a need to identify all such spots and places so that further damage to the environment is prevented on time and the existence of humans is not endangered. We need to take pledge in unison to revitalize the environment as besides the government, it stands the responsibility of the people too.
